Seattle Reign FC

A Letter from amy griffin:

February is a short, but exciting, month for the club! Our camp website is up and running as we look forward to building off last year’s inaugural camp season.

Our staff has been hard at work on and off the field. All our teams are in action this month, so it will be fun to see each groups' continued progress in training and in matches.

Last month’s “Time Out for Mental Health” coaching education will now give our staff the tools necessary to better serve our players. It was an honor to be one of two clubs selected to participate in this programming. We take the mental health of everyone in our environment very seriously, and this opportunity helps players and staff alike.

February is the month of love; spread it everywhere you go!

SEATTLE REIGN ACADEMY NEWS & UPDATES

College Commits

We are proud to announce our two most recent college commitments from the Seattle Reign Academy! Malia Suehiro, Seattle Reign Class of 2025, has committed to Loyola Marymount University. Mackie McNulty, Seattle Reign Class of 2024, is heading to the University of New Mexico next year.

Congratulations to both of these incredible players. We can’t wait to follow your careers!

Time Out for Mental Health

Empowering ourselves to be more than just mentors on the field, last month we dedicated time to attend the Timeout for Mental Health training seminar, in partnership with the University of Washington and Seattle Children's Hospital.

During this seminar, we discussed ways that we can equip ourselves to support our players both in sports and in life, especially those who may be dealing with mental health issues. To all of you who are struggling with your mental health, remember that you are not alone

Amy Griffin, Jan Smisek and Lesle Gallimore Recognized at  United Soccer Coaches Conference

Last month, three Reign Academy legends were all recognized at the @unitedsoccercoaches Convention in California for their dedication to our soccer community.

Amy Griffin (left), our Academy Director, was awarded the Charlotte Moran Youth Long Term Service Award. Jan Smisek (center), a former Reign Academy coach, earned the Women’s Coaches Award of Excellence. Lesle Gallimore (right), our @reignfc General Manager, was awarded the Walt Chyzowych Lifetime Achievement Award. We are so proud of these  three inspiring women, and are honored to have leaders like these at the helm of the Seattle Reign Academy.

Mayor’s Cup

Our 2007 Blanche Squad is heading to Las Vegas to compete in the 2024 Mayor’s Cup at the end of this month. At the Mayor’s Cup, these players will have the opportunity to compete against teams from all across the country and players from across the globe. Even more, they will be showcasing their talents in front of hundreds of college scouts.

This will be the first out-of-state tournament that the 2007 Blanche team has ever attended, and we are so pumped for them. Good luck, GO REIGN!.

Summer Camp Registration Open

Our summer camp registration is now officially open!

Seattle Reign Youth Summer Day Camps align with the Seattle Reign Core Values and Curriculum.  Qualified coaches combined with a curriculum designed to foster proper technique while developing tactical solutions in a match-like environment.  A primary topic will be covered each day providing individual and small group activities in the morning.  This will ensure campers maintain high repetition and maximum touches on the ball to improve player's comfortability with ball and slight pressure.  Larger group activities and scrimmages occur after lunch break.  Intention is to keep the atmosphere fun and high energy while having an opportunity to perform the topic of the day in a game.  Join us for some fun and learning on the field!

Camp includes:

  • 12:1 Player:Coach Ratio

  • Knowledgeable staff and curriculum designed to foster technique and ideas to implement within the game

  • 1 Ticket to Seattle Reign Match

  • Athletic Trainer On site

  • Seattle Reign T-Shirt

  • Pro-Seattle Reign NWSL player autograph day

SEATTLE REIGN ACADEMY TEAM OF THE MONTH: 2011 GA

Each month, we will be highlighting a team in our ranks that has inspired us on and off the field. This January, we are putting the spotlight on our 2011 GA squad, coached by Reilee DuPratt.

‘11 GA has been developing an impressive work rate in these last few months. They have fully bought into the concept of the buildout, and DuPratt has been instrumental in nurturing this growth from her players. As they compete in their  very first year in the Girls Academy League, 2011 GA has all the tools they need to be a force in the season.

Here is what coach DuPratt had to say about her team:

“I am not sure where to start with this group. They have grown and matured so much this past season. They have really become their own drivers in their development. They take ownership in their warm up, holding each other accountable, setting the tempo of practice, and their individual and team goals. It has been an absolute pleasure working with this group of girls over the past couple of months. They have shown a lot of grit and resilience this season in not only developing in areas of the curriculum, but also dealing with setbacks and adversity. An area on the field that has really started to take off is their ability to recognize pressure in the defensive third and how that impacts their decision on the ball. They are really buying into our style of play and working to execute that on the field.”

Keep it up, 2011 GA!
