Seattle Reign FC

A Letter from amy griffin:

Grateful to see April front and center, with shorter days in our rear-view mirror.  April finds our U15-U19 teams heading to the Girls Academy Showcase, with the remainder of teams gearing up for Washington Cup; a nostalgic tournament for all of us who grew up playing soccer in Washington.

April is a time for staff and players to assess the season so far, recognizing areas that need more attention and where we have made great strides. While we take great pride in what our staff brings in both experiences and knowledge, our Core Values are what set us up to be a healthy place where our players are challenged and can learn useful qualities both on the field and in life –  Respect, Energy, Integrity, Growth Mindset, and Never-ending Process. Seattle Reign Academy aims to foster these “KEY QUALITIES” in all of our players.

This goes for tactical, physical and technical areas as well as areas in the Core Value department. Looking to seek out these players initially and foster these characters throughout the different age-levels in the club is important.

Here is an example of one KEY QUALITY SRFC Core Values Overall:

Respect:  Shows respect to everyone at all times. “Showing regard for one’s worth and or abilities.  Valuing their feelings and accepting them on an equal basis and giving them the same consideration you would expect for yourself. Respect begins with oneself.”

For our different age groups, what does this look like?

  • For U7/8: Hi -5’s teammates. Positive interactions.

  • U9/10: Hi -5’s teammates. Makes Friends. Welcomes new players.

  • U11/12: Hi -5’s teammates. Positive interactions. Welcomes new players. Fair Play.

  • U13/U15: Good role model for younger players. Good sport in tough situations. Engages and includes all players.

  • U16/U19: Regard everyone as worthy. Consistently treat everyone on and off the field how you want to be treated. Make someone’s day.

We expect everyone stepping into this environment, whether a player, coach, family member or friend, to amplify, model and display these actions every day. The best way to represent and show pride in who we are begins with respect and our core values. Living these as best we can allows everyone a bit of grace and more courage to try new things, along with a host of other positive outcomes when everyone is treated with respect.

Enjoy the month of April in the best way possible!
