U.S. Under-17 women’s national team head coach Mark Carr has named his roster for the upcoming November training camp split between Sunrise, Florida and Mexico City, Mexico. Reign Academy defender Smith Hunter is among the 22 players called in.

“We believe Smith is ready to thrive during this opportunistic time in her young soccer career,” said Reign Academy technical director Kim Calkins. “She has an uncanny ability demand quality of herself and her teammates, is one of the first people to acknowledge and encourage a great performance from someone else, will deliver an inspirational word to the team amidst disappointment, and bring a consistent work effort which is unrivaled. We understand what moments like this mean for her and she has the support and encouragement from an entire Academy.”

The camp will run from November 11 to November 19. The team will train in Florida for a few days before traveling to Mexico to face the Mexico U-17 WNT in two matches. This is Hunter’s second U-17 call up this year, and the defender has also been part of three U-16 camps in 2017.

The matches will take place on November 16 and November 18, and will serve as preparation for the 2018 CONCACAF U-17 Women’s Championship in Nicaragua next Spring.

“Smith is no longer getting called in for a camp or an opportunity to play up. She is now positioned to work toward a roster spot for the U17 World Cup qualifying games,” said Calkins. “This selection is not only an honor and a considerable amount of responsibility for her while she is with US Soccer, but also when she is transitioning in and out of the Academy environment for Reign trainings and games. She is a player whom opponents will now talk about before games, whom teammates and club players will look to as a standard for US Soccer, and whom coaches will want to continue to assist in preparing her to represent her country.”
